Arsenal face a fight with Liverpool, Manchester United and Spurs to land long-term target Jackson Martinez, according to the Daily Star.
Martinez has been a rumoured target for Arsenal in recent years and a release clause in his contract meant that a move always seemed likely.
However, despite our desperate need for a centre forward which has eased in recent windows, Wenger never acted on the situation and the Colombian has remained at Porto.
Now 28, it is reported that the striker is ready for a move, mainly because Martinez has said so himself with a summer transfer on his radar.
“Right now I only focus on doing my job with Porto, but I’m ready to make the leap in the next window,” Martinez was quoted as saying in the Daily Star.

“I have my head focused only on the work I’m doing at Porto at the moment and when the transfer window reopens, we shall see what will happen.”
Such is the shortage of top goal-getters across Europe in the current climate, the likes like of Liverpool, Spurs and Manchester United are also interested in forward.
Porto are regulars in the Champions League and you would imagine that whichever club finishes in the top four will be Martinez’s preferred destination.
Our needs upfront have become less urgent following the signings of Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck; the fact that we let three strikers go in January and are still comfortable speaks volumes too.
If previous windows are anything to go by, unless a superstar striker becomes available it would be difficult to see Wenger adding option in that position.
