According to the Daily Star both Arsenal and Liverpool have been offered Fabio Coentrao by Real Madrid after Manchester United cooled their interest.
Coentrao has fallen out of favour at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and is struggling for game time as Marcelo is preferred at left-back in Carlo Ancelotti’s starting XI.
However, Madrid are in no rush to sell the Portugal international and have placed a rather daunting £25m price-tag on the defender.
This may prove to be too expensive for us, especially as frugal manager Arsene Wenger has already splashed out £15m on Gabriel Paulista in the January transfer window.
There would also be question marks over whether we even need another left-back, with both Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal in solid form his season.
However, Coentrao’s ability to also play in defensive midfield is an attractive characteristic, as Wenger hasn’t really addressed that issue this month.
Youngster Kyrstian Bielik was signed from Legia Warsaw, but at 17-years-old it could be some time before the Polish starlet is making an impression on the first team.
It is still doubtful Wenger would be tempted into spending so much on Coentrao on deadline day though.
