In today’s roundup we have some great news with two young players committing their long term futures to the club and we also have a reluctant player in the form of Sanchez who just doesn’t seem to accept defeat in anything these days.
Arsene Wenger confirms new deals for Arsenal duo
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Chuba Akpom and Francis Coquelin have extended their contracts. It is being reported that Akpom’s contract has been extended until 2019 and Coquelin’s until the summer of 2018. The Frenchman’s Arsenal career looked like it was close to an end following a loan to Charlton Athletic but he was recalled due to injuries and since his return the youngster has been a revelation to say the least.
Akpom has been afforded some spouts of game time by Wenger this season and although he is unlikely to warrant a first-team spot imminently the loan departures of Sanogo and Podolski should allow him more opportunities in the second half of the season. He could well turn out to be a fine asset for the Gunners in years to come.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger hints Alexis Sanchez could feature in North London Derby
Wenger has confirmed Alexis Sanchez is still suffering from an injury but has not ruled him out of making the squad for the North London Derby. The French manager announced on Thursday that the Chilean would miss the game but the forward might start if he proves the medical staff wrong in the final training session.
Sanchez has been scoring goals for fun since arriving at the Emirates having already scored 18 this season, but his hard-working approach has impressed teammates and pundits alike. It is hardly surprising that he is eager to play some part against Spurs despite not being at 100 per cent, but he shouldn’t be risked if the problem could worsen.
Next Arsenal star set for contract talks revealed
Hector Bellerin looks set to be the next Arsenal star to renew his contract following in the footsteps of the likes of Francis Coquelin and Chuba Akpom. The Spaniard was called into the first team this season more out of necessity with both Laurent Koscielny and Mathieu Debuchy suffering a number of serious injuries.
The first few games were very difficult for the teenager but has since developed into a highly competent and promising right back, scoring with aplomb last weekend against Aston Villa to cap off a stellar few weeks. Hopefully he too will sign a new contract and commit his long term future with the club.
Ex-Gunner claims Tottenham are the one man team, not Arsenal
Arsenal legend Paul Merson has admitted that the Gunners can cope without Sanchez but the Spurs cannot without Harry Kane. Sanchez has scored 12 goals in the Premier League, setting up 7 and this has lead to claims that we are a one man team. But a deeper look suggests that the Chilean is more of a vital cog rather than the crux of the team.
He has won us games, but the fact that without the performances of other players like Coquelin, Cazorla and Koscielny in various games recently we would have suffered. The game against Man City where Sanchez, apart from his work rate, went relatively unnoticed was a perfect example. Other players stepped up and produced some stellar performances. The Villa game last week was another perfect example with plenty of goals being shared around.
Spurs are more of a two man team. Christian Eriksen has been fantastic and will need to stopped. That’l be Coquelin’s job.
Laurent Koscielny reveals the secret behind Arsenal’s recent form
Laurent Koscielny revealed the defence has been the main reason behind the Gunners improved form. We have suffered persistent injuries in the first half of the season as Koscielny was limited to just made just five appearances from October to December because of chronic tendinitis in his Achilles, often forcing Wenger to play full-backs at centre-back.
However with Koscielny’s return the defensive performances have improved and his partnership with Mertesacker is as strong as ever. With Francis Coquelin shielding the defence better than Mikel Arteta or Mathieu Flamini, we are harder to score againat. Hopefully we can continue this stability at the back for the rest of the season.
Securing the long term futures of Coquelin and Akpom is a great move from Wenger, as both of them are huge prospects and Coquelin is already showing what he is capable of. Bellerin is also performing well above expectations and it seems he will also sign on the dotted very soon. Coming to Sanchez, he is doing all he can to convince Wenger that he can start against Spurs but it’s unhighly likely.
It’s Derby today, can we get all 3 points? COYG!
