We will be hosting Middlesbrough in the FA Cup this Sunday, looking to secure our position in the next round of the prestigious competition.
Olivier Giroud revealed that he could bizarrely have been lining up for the opposition however, as the Championship team tried to sign him back in 2009, as reported by Arsenal’s official website.
The Frenchman joined Montpellier in 2010, leaving Ligue 2 side FC Tours for a modest fee. The club also entertained offers from Middlesbrough and Celtic however, with Giroud snubbing both in favour of a stay in France.
“Yes, that’s true,” Giroud replied when asked about the rumour.
“Middlesbrough and Celtic [also wanted to sign me].
“It was a great team… today they are close to coming back into the English Premier League.
“It will be nice to play against them and it will remind me of my previous years in Tours.”
The 28-year-old has been in fine goalscoring form since returning from a lengthy spell on the sidelines, and will be looking to continue in that vein on Sunday.
With a number of top teams already out of the running, this is a fantastic chance for us to retain the trophy that we ended our decade long drought with.
