Francis Coquelin has recently cemented his place as the tough tackling, energetic defensive midfielder we have been missing, but that’s not all he brings to the side.
The Frenchman is not afraid to bark orders at his teammates, and has shown leadership far beyond his years in recent games, as reported by Eurosport.
Despite only just breaking back into the first team he has no qualms about giving commands to the senior players, and if someone lets their their defensive duties fall by the wayside, he is happy to let them know about it.
“If it needs to be said, I am the one who is saying it. Everyone can tell each other off, so that is a good thing,” he said.
“We are all fighting for each other and the spirit is good in the team, so everyone can say what they think.
“With every player we have got going forward, you need a man with a defensive mind as well.
“If I can give the team a good balance – because we have got quite a few players going forward – hopefully we can get back to keeping clean sheets soon.”
Mathieu Flamini can often be seen doing the same thing, bellowing at his teammates and ordering them into position, the difference is however, that the experienced Frenchman often seems to neglect his own duties; something his young compatriot certainly cannot be accused of.
Coquelin is arguably the kind of player we need captaining the side, although it is far too early to tell whether he will hold down a starting spot in the team beyond the current campaign.
