Arsenal stopper Laurent Koscielny has revealed that defensive flexibility is the main reason behind the team’s up-turn in form as the boys haven’t conceded a goal now in three Premier League games.
Our goal hasn’t been breached in the league since the New Years Day debacle at St Mary’s Stadium, scoring 10 goals without reply, with the likes of Stoke City, Man City and Aston Villa all dismissed along the way.
Koscielny has been suffering with a chronic achilles problem, prompting Arsene Wenger to bring in Gabriel from Villarreal in the January window.
However, when fit, Koscielny’s importance to the side cannot be underestimated as his presence brings the best out of the whole back four.
“We cover each other as a team and try to win the ball back quicker”, Koscielny told Arsenal Player.
“Sometime we can also drop to our box and defend together, so we can mix the two situations.”
Our defensive shape and solidity has been evident and after claims from Mertesacker that the squad held ‘crisis talks’ following the Southampton game, it’s refreshing to see the team focused on defending.
Should we maintain the discipline on Saturday, then the victory in the Derby will be halfway there.
