Former Gunner Charlie Nicholas believes we have nothing to fear from Manchester United this season, and claims they will drop out of the top four before long, as reported by the Express.
The Scotsman believes Liverpool are the main threat to our third place aspirations, and that Louis van Gaal’s side will eventually fall off the pace.
He also insists that despite our disappointing loss against Tottenham this past weekend, we are still favourites ahead of them to secure Champions League football once again.
“I still think Arsenal should finish third,” he said.
“As much as it’s painful for Arsenal fans, including myself, you’ve got to put your hands up and admit the best team won on Saturday.
“It’s certainly exciting with Arsenal still favourites [to finish in the top four] and Spurs showing the form to prove they’re capable but Arsenal have the personality to bounce back and have a pretty decent run of games. This is usually the time of the season when they go on a run.”
“I haven’t been impressed by Manchester United and think that Tottenham and Liverpool are bigger threats, although European football will be a hindrance to both of them.”
He is not the only one who hasn’t been hugely impressed by the Red Devils, yet somehow they find themselves in third place.
They have a habit of winning games, even when playing poorly; a talent which has served them well.
Hopefully Nicholas is right, and Manchester United drop out of the race for the top four eventually. We cannot rely on that however, and must find the form we showed throughout January as we continue our push up the table.
