Lukas Podolski has seen the last of his involvement in European competition this season, with Inter Milan leaving the German forward out of their Europa League squad, according to Goal.
The World Cup winner joined the Serie A side on a six month loan deal this past January, and was looking forward to regular first team football. He may see his pitch time limited once again however, and will certainly not be featuring in his new side’s European campaign.
UEFA rules state that only one player who has already featured for another team in European competition may be added to the squad, with Roberto Mancini opting for former Bayern Munich star Xherdan Shaqiri over the on loan Arsenal star.
The 29-year-old has impressed domestically in Italy so far, and has been handed four starts by Mancini; as well as an appearance off the bench. Clearly he hasn’t done enough to make himself invaluable however, and will have to watch from the sidelines when Inter play Celtic later this month.
