The world was given a glimpse of what Alexis Sanchez was capable of at the beginning of the season. In an environment where he was allowed to express his phenomenal talent, he flourished. However, he seems to have come off the boil recently and there might be a reason for that.
At Barcelona, Sanchez was surrounded by world class talent including Xavi, Andres Iniesta and of course the mercurial Lionel Messi. Every move revolved around Messi which of course suppressed the talent of Sanchez but we all knew what he was capable of even then. We had seen enough of his talent at Udinese to write him off.
Sanchez became a cult figure at Barcelona known for his hard work and attacking prowess, but there was always a feeling that he could be much better and so began a fight for his signature between Arsenal and Juventus that even the prudent professor was not prepared to lose.
When Sanchez signed for the Gunners and the season began, we were hit with a major injury crisis that thrust him into the deep end, but instead Sanchez flourished relishing the responsibility that had been entrusted to him.
Pretty soon, he had the whole world purring at what he was doing in North London and not long after we were branded a one man show – even if almost the whole team had a major contribution.

So what has happened to Sanchez now? He is still noticed on the pitch due to his high work rate but the goals have dried up somewhat. I think the main reason is due to the rude health of the squad thanks to Shad Forsythe, as well all as the sheer number of attacking players at Wenger’s disposal.
Sanchez needs an environment where he can express himself as the main attacking outlet, it remains to be seen whether this is just a blip before he comes back, but I believe the sheer number of players at Wenger’s disposal seems to work against him as it did in Barcelona
