Inevitably after our 5-0 thrashing of Aston Villa on Sunday some are stating that Arsenal could go onto win the Premier League title this season.
It’s true that we looked strong against one of the most out-of-form teams in the English top tier and Arsene Wenger was pleased with the way the team played.
“We scored goals and didn’t concede. Our offensive game was good even though I believe we had some weaker periods in the game when Aston Villa were in possession,” Wenger told the club’s website.
“We always looked dangerous when we got [in between] their lines and defensively we were sound as well.
“Overall it’s a positive day for us.”
However, Wenger was quick to dampen claims that we are gunning for the league title now and chose the old football cliche that we are simply concentrating on our own form.
“It’s too early to say [that Arsenal can still have a say]. We are 11 points behind – that means they need to lose four games and we need to win four,” the boss continued.
“I believe that we should try to be consistent and see what happens.”
The win lifted us up to fifth position, behind Southampton by a slightly inferior goal difference after they lost 1-0 at home to Swansea City later on Sunday.
Chelsea and Manchester City still look like the teams to beat despite their rather tame 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, but it is true that we look a lot stronger than at the start of the campaign.
Who knows, with a few more wins maybe we could challenge for our first title since 2004 after all.
