Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck has hailed strike partner Olivier Giroud after the Frenchman bagged a brace in our 2-1 win over Newcastle United at St James’s Park yesterday.
Giroud took his tally to 17 for the season, which is remarkable when you consider he spent three months out with a broken leg from August – November.
Welbeck’s praise for his team-mate must have been made through gritted teeth given the former Man United is being ‘passed over’ for the central attacking role.
At the moment however, Giroud is giving a masterclass in centre forward play.

“Oli’s been on flames and he’s worked very hard to get the goals,” Welbeck told Arsenal Player.
“He’s winning points for the team and I think collectively everyone has been very impressed with the way he’s been playing in 2015.
“He’s big and strong, and if defenders get tight to him, he can hold the ball up and bring others into play. I think we utilise that strength of his very well.”
Giroud’s play when his back’s to goal is something Welbeck needs to work on if he is to become an automatic centre forward choice at a top club.
In his last outing playing that role, Welbeck grabbed the headlines by scoring the winner against his old club Man United, but his all round display was poor.
Welbeck needs to start delivering, in any role he’s asked to perform in, as the £16m signing is yet to really deliver the goods in Gunners colours.
