After a torrid first season at Manchester United, there is already talk of a summer exit for Angel Di Maria.
Former Red Devils defender Paul Parker claims Arsenal would be a good fit for the former Real Madrid man, according to the Telegraph.
Despite a bright start to his Old Trafford career, the Argentine has seen his form dip dramatically since his summer switch from Real. He has failed to live up to his massive £59.7m price tag, and looks out of sorts and even disinterested at times.
He started to recapture some of his attacking flair during our 2-1 win this past Monday, but his foolish behaviour then got him sent off – effectively putting the game out of Man United’s reach.
Parker claims the 27-year-old must move on if he is to revive his career, and he believes Arsenal would be the best fit for him if he wishes to remain in the Premier League.
“The only way it is going to work out for Di Maria, the only way he is going to get back to being the player he was before, is to move on,” Parker said.
“The way things are going at Manchester United, he is not going to progress as a player because the team are playing horribly and you can’t see how that situation is going to change.
“PSG would suit him nicely, as would going back to Real Madrid.
“In England, Arsenal are the best fit for the way they shift the ball around quickly in midfield, but even Chelsea would be a better home for him than United as they are a bit more expressive now, while United have gone from being one of the most flamboyant teams in the Premier League to being in the bottom half of the table for excitement.”
Louis van Gaal is unlikely to want to take a massive loss on the close to £60m they splashed out on Di Maria, and the Dutchman may also be reluctant to sell to a rival. The only conceivable option at the moment seems to be a big money move to PSG, but with Financial Fair Play in place they may struggle to stump up the cash.
