Arsene Wenger was full of praise for the team after a hard fought win away to Newcastle United on Saturday at St James’ Park where we had to dig deep for all three points.
After taking a 2-0 half-time lead, some slack defending at the start of the second period allowed the hosts to gather momentum with a goal. It was all hands on deck after that as the affects of the trip to Monaco started to show.
Wenger was certainly impressed, specifically mentioning the attitude and application the players showed.

“I am pleased with] the spirit of the team and the mental quality of the players,” Wenger told Arsenal Player.
“They are outstanding guys and it’s a pleasure to see how they behave and a credit to the club as well to see that quality on the behavioural front and the desire to do well.
“I was very pleased with the resilience because it shows qualities that are important such as solidarity, the fact that we refuse to give in and on that front I think we did very well.”
Wenger’s praise is understandable, but we really should’ve ended the game as a contest and the trend in our last three Premier League games is a cause for concern.
Against Crystal Palace, Queens Park Rangers and on Saturday, the games should’ve been over as a contest, but sloppy defending rallies the home team and their supporters for a nervy finish.
Ruthlessness is another quality we must get to grips with soon if we are to have a successful end to the season.
