Wenger looking to overturn Monaco deficit.
After the much needed victory over arch rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter finals, Arsenal registered another impressive result in the Premier League as they thrashed West Ham United 3-0 on Saturday. This comes as a huge confidence boost as the Gunners look to overcome a two goal deficit after suffering a humiliating 3-1 defeat against AS Monaco in the Champions League.
The Gunners travel to France where they will play against the Ligue One side in what could possibly be the most important match for us this season.
“We now go to Monaco. We’ve come out of a good week because we’ve played at Manchester United, we’ve played the London derby today and we need the belief to prepare well. Let’s do that and after we’ll see.
I haven’t decided yet [whether to start Santi Cazorla and Danny Welbeck]. You have to take that a little bit with perspective because the game [against West Ham] was more open, they were fresh when they came on and they have the quality of course. I rested Cazorla today because he’s basically played every single game since the start of the season.”
He also added that:
“If you have no belief, you have no chance [to qualify for the quarter finals in the Champions League]. We have to believe that we can do it and give everything. This time Monaco are favourites so we have to go there, give absolutely everything and come out of the game with that feeling.”
A very important match coming up against Monaco, COYG!
Arsenal legend backs Wenger against Monaco.
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has backed Arsene Wenger to deliver a memorable performance against AS Monaco on Tuesday night, despite having a hilly task at hand. The Gunners must overturn a 3-1 deficit at the Stade Louis II and the King suggested that we can take heart from how PSG and Schalke performed away from home in the Champions League last week.
Although no team has ever overcome such a deficit to progress into the later stages of the Champions League, all is not lost as Arsenal have had an impressive run of games since the Monaco defeat.
“PSG stunned Chelsea while Schalke gave Real Madrid a fright with their away win. I believe Arsenal can do the same at Monaco on Tuesday,” Henry said in the Sun.
“People will say I’m biased, I know, but despite trailing 3-1 from the first leg, my former club can produce a big result in the big game.
“It won’t be easy of course. Yet with the right attitude and commitment, Arsene Wenger’s team can deliver a performance they will never, ever forget.”
Believe in the team, COYG!
Chambers fires warning at Manchester City
Calum Chamber has fired a warning at Premier League champions Manchester City as Arsenal beat West Ham United to cut the gap to one point. City diminished their title chances after they lost by a solitary goal away to Burnley on Saturday, increasing their gap between leaders Chelsea – who have a game in hand – to 6 points.
“We’ve got to aim for as high as we can really. We’ve got to go into every game and try and get a win and see where that takes us,” Chambers told the Evening Standard.
“We’ve got a lot of confidence built up as well as momentum from good results in the League so we’ve just got to keep that momentum going and keep the confidence going and get the results we need.”
Would it be safe to say that Arsenal are back in the title race?
