Arsene Wenger has hit out at AS Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim in the latest bout of their mini feud, branding him a liar for comments about Wenger refusing to congratulate him, as reported by the Mirror.
The Portuguese manager criticised Wenger for being a poor loser, and claimed following our 3-1 loss at the Emirates that the Frenchman had refused to congratulate him.
This was his defence for not shaking Wenger’s hand following our 2-0 win at the Stade Louis II.
Le Prof totally denies these claims, and insists that the story is totally fabricated. He apparently left Jardim to celebrate with his staff and players, waiting to congratulate him after the press conferences instead.
“Pictures show that I waited to congratulate the Monaco coach after the game. He celebrated his victory with his staff, which I quite understand,” he said.
“I congratulated him after the press conference. I am therefore surprised and disappointed to hear such lies.
“That said, I wish Monaco all the best and good luck for the future.”
Considering Wenger’s history with Monaco, it was bizarre to see the hostility that followed our exit from the Champions League.
Hopefully this will all blow over soon, as we need to be focusing on the Premier League and the FA Cup. This kind of media attention helps no one, and the quicker we can forget about it the better.
