Arsenal ensured they remain in third with a comfortable win over the Hammers. Here’s a list of what impressed me the most in the game. Of course I was more than impressed with Alex Song’s attempts to convince us he’s a footballer.
Giroud is revolutionising forward play.
Olivier Giroud played in the French second division when he was 23. Fast forward five years, he’s setting standards at English football’s top level. The Frenchman was inspirational against the hapless Hammers who strugged against him throughout the game. His first contribution was a deft flick to Walcott which the Englishman somehow contrived to miss.
Giroud’s goal right at half time was a thing of beauty, after exchanging passes with the effervescent Ozil and the energetic Ramsey, Giroud curled in one at the far post. It was a glorious team goal. Giroud turned the provider for Arsenal’s second when he dummied for Ramsey and played in a quick one two with the Welshman who slotted it home. Bar Monaco he has had a simply stunning season. Here’s some stats:
Olivier Giroud 14 goals 24 games
Diego Costa 19 goals 33 games
And Giroud was out for three months. Giroud>>Diego’Ruffian’Costa.
Ramsey looks like the Ramsey of old
It’s been a strange season for Ramsey. He hasn’t had a complete run of games cause of his hamstrings and even when he played it was obvious that he tried to complicate things. He neither scored nor defended well. Against West Ham though the Welshman was at his best. He dovetailed beautifully with Ozil and Giroud, he tracked back and supported Coquelin in midfield. He rounded off his performance with a well taken goal and he has given Arsene Wenger a real headache in terms of team selection going into the Monaco game. Well done Aaron. Do your Welsh Jesus stuff in Monaco please.
We are on course for our highest finish since 05
Arsenal are just a point off Manchester City in second place after the Citizens lost to Burnley yesterday. Of course there is not a more dreaded sight than John Terry lifting the Premier league but we can do nothing about it. Let’s focus on our games and see what happens. Chelsea are 7 points ahead and have a game in hand. But games in hand doesn’t necessarily mean guaranteed points.
All in all a great week for us and a proper build up to the Monaco game. Of course our chances are minimal to say the least but an early goal or two and let’s kick on from there. Come on you Gunners. Believe.
* Chelsea drew and Spurs lost. hahaha
