Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has lashed out at Arsenal once again, claiming that we are only able to play when the pressure is off, as reported by the Independent.
The player turned pundit has a history of blasting Arsenal, and has been highly critical of us recently.
He once again hit out at us again following our disappointing loss against AS Monaco, and while his column was far kinder, he still suggested that we were only able to play when the pressure was off.
“In Monaco, Arsenal showed what they can do when the shackles were off and they had to attack,” his column read.
“It was a brilliant performance against a very average team, even if they did not get the third goal they needed. Typical Arsenal, that when the pressure is off, they played their best football.”
The 40-year-old has been particularly critical of Mesut Özil, and no matter how he performs he seems to incur the wrath of the Ginger ex-midfielder.
Our German World Cup winner had a solid game against Monaco, and played a part in both goals on the night. He was one of the most influential players on the pitch, yet was still heavily criticised by Scholes.
He backtracked somewhat in his column, and was far less severe with his comments about the playmaker. He still insists that Özil needs to do more however, and claims he should be the difference maker in our games.
“It was another game from Özil, and another failure to make the big difference,” he continued.
“It was not his worst performance, and he had a role in the first goal for Olivier Giroud, but how long must Arsenal wait for him to deliver the moment that wins them a tie like that against all the odds?
“He found space but his touch was not great. He tried hard but he slows Arsenal down at times. He was bought to make a difference on nights like that.”
He is a horrendous pundit, and although he has become very vocal with his opinions, he is one of the most ill informed and clueless pundits around.
Scholes needs to either start watching games properly so he can come to unbiased and intelligent conclusions, or learn to keep his mouth shut.
