The International break could not have come at a worse time for Arsenal. The Arsenal players have started to believe in miracles and their abilities as a team and they are playing like they are convinced they can snatch the title from Chelsea’s grasp. Chelsea’s win against Hull City after letting a two goal lead slip shows how vulnerable they are at the moment and the pressure they are under.
After Liverpool’s loss to Manchester United at Anfield, it would have been the best time to play them; especially as Arsenal have the homeground advantage. As it is, this break gives Liverpool time to regroup and the result can now go either way. Lose this game and our title ambitions go up in smoke and we will really face a battle for fourth place; win this game and we get breathing space from Liverpool while putting pressure on Chelsea and Manchester City.
Another problem with the International break is that it has never been kind to Arsenal in terms of injuries. Why is it that injuries always seem to affect Arsenal players only? The only advantage is that Ozil might miss out as he recovers from sickness, as well as AOC, while players like Olivier Giroud never seem to get injured apart from this season when he suffered from a long term injury.
If all our players come back from the International break without injuries, we have a really good chance of fighting for the title. Of course a lot depends on if we can maintain the momentum that we have built. Arsene Wenger seems relaxed as he has been in this position so many times before.
Everyone is amazed that after giving up on the title for another season, we now have a real shot at it. We actually have a chance of winning the double. Let us hope that come the end of the season, Arsenal fans will still be smiling.
