The 22-year-old Brazilian joined the club at the age of 16, but has been unable to get a work-permit for years. He has finally been granted one however, and could potentially make an appearance for us next season.
“I have been loaned out every season because I could not get the work permit. But I got it this summer so I’m finally ready to defend the colors of the Gunners,” he said.
“When I arrived, I was barely 16 years old and it was impossible to get the papers. At the beginning I was told it would take 2 years for the papers but I finally had to wait 4 years… But now it’s done. In July I could finally get a chance to play in England.”
“It’s a dream for me to play [at Arsenal]. Arsenal is a great club. Unfortunately this was not possible because of these administrative concerns. But I think I’m ready now, I learned a lot in Spain. Including playing without the ball. If all goes well, I’ll be out there next season.”
Silva is unquestionably talented, and he has been likened to compatriot and Barcelona star Neymar due to his quick feet and bag of tricks.

He hasn’t quite fulfilled his potential as a player, and still looks extremely raw. Whether or not this is something that could be remedied on arrival at the Emirates remains to be seen, but at the moment he certainly isn’t ready.
With the bevy of talented players in front of him he is unlikely to see game time at Arsenal, but may at least be given a chance in pre-season. His current deal is coming to an end soon however, so unless Arsene Wenger looks to extend his contract then we could see Silva sold before he even gets a chance to make his competitive debut for Arsenal.
