Arsenal have reportedly joined the race to sign Uruguayan wonderkid Federico Valverde.
According to the Daily Mirror, the 16-year-old had been tracked by Spanish giants Barcelona in the past, and it looks as if they are our biggest competition to sign the exciting youngster.
One thing working in our favour going forward is the transfer embargo placed upon the Catalan club. Luis Enrique’s men are forbidden from signing anyone until January of next year after they breached FIFA regulations. They are probably hoping that declaring their interest in the player may do enough to delay his decision until they can formally acquire him.
However, the Mirror also suggest that Premier League leaders Chelsea are considering making an approach for the player.

The Penarol forward has become one of the hottest properties in South American football after lighting up the recent Scudamericano U17 tournament. Valverde scored seven goals in just nine appearances, helping Uruguay to finish fifth.
As well as Valverde, we’ve been heavily linked with another South American wonderkid recently. Maxi Romero plays for Velez Sarfield, and is close to a £4.5m move to the Emirates, reckons talkSPORT.
