Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed the team news ahead of our top-of-the-table clash against rivals Chelsea on Sunday with updates on Per Mertesacker, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal transfer news
Mertesacker came off in the second half at Wembley last week and left the stadium in a protective boot which had many worried, including Wenger himself (via Arsenal Player), but the boss refused to rule him out of the game this weekend. According The Evening Standard’s James Olley, Wenger revealed that our vice-captain is still receiving treatment and remains a doubt.
At Colney. Wenger: “Mertesacker is still in the treatment room. I don’t know if he’s available. Ox is out, Arteta is back in training.”

There is good news for our club captain Mikel Arteta who could to be named in the matchday squad for the first time since November against Borussia Dortmund. Calf and ankle problems have troubled the Spaniard this season but after returning to full training, he could be available for selection; however Wenger admitted that Sunday’s game may come too soon.
However, there is still concern surrounding Oxlade-Chamberlain’s persistent groin problems with the 21-year-old not in contention to face Chelsea. Given the lack of progress, it begs the question whether or not we’ll see him play again this season?
