Arsene Wenger insists that there isn’t much between Arsenal and Chelsea and believes the west London side are only ahead of us due to our indifferent start to the season, the Frenchman told Arsenal Player.
Winning only four of our opening 12 games, Chelsea displayed their determined nature in claiming the title as they remained undefeated until mid-December.
The goalless draw on Sunday could be viewed as a matter of small margins between the two clubs, but Chelsea’s targets encouraged their approach to the game which blurs any realistic conclusions.

“You could see that [there is] not a lot [between the teams],” Wenger said.
“We missed the first part of the season – after six games we had one win and Chelsea were already five or six points in front. That played a big part in the run-in.”
Jose Mourinho wanted a draw to keep the 10 point gap at the top of the league and effectively end our title chances; which he achieved. Had he needed all three points, Wenger’s statement may have been a more respectable outlook on what the situation is between the two clubs.
With the introduction of FFP and our rise as financial superpowers, this summer could be one of the most important of Arsene Wenger’s tenure. Failure to address our squad deficiencies and mount a serious title challenge would be very hard to take after our superb form this calendar year.
