It was revealed recently that Chelsea’s Diego Costa could potentially miss his side’s trip to the Emirates, but it now appears as though the former Atletico Madrid striker will be fit, according to the Daily Mail.
Costa has suffered badly with injuries in the second half of the season, and has repeatedly been sidelined with hamstring problems.
The Blues boss claims his summer signing is recovering quicker than expected however, and may be fit in time for their trip across London.
“Diego is progressing very well, I think he has a chance for next weekend,” Mourinho said.
“Our target for him was to play the last four matches. Arsenal is the sixth from the end, so if he doesn’t play against Arsenal or Leicester, it is not a problem because we were always focusing on the last four.
“But thing are going so well he has a chance [of facing Arsenal]. He’s training, he starts training with the rest of the squad next week.”
Costa hasn’t exactly been showing the same form he showed during the first half of the season, but he is still arguably a step up from Loic Remy and an ageing Didier Drogba.
We want Chelsea to be as weak as possible as we head into the tail end of the season, as mathematically it is still possible for us to topple them. We will need to be at our best regardless of who they deploy up front however, as Mourinho has an (unfortunately) excellent record over Arsene Wenger.
