Costa tweaked his hamstring at the weekend against Stoke City and was forced off just 11 minutes after coming on as a substitute.
The club say they are still assessing his hamstring but The Sun claim that a source close to the player has told them: “It’s worse than before.”
Jose Mourinho said the Spanish international would be out for around two weeks immediately following Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Stoke at the weekend.
It’s unclear as yet which information is correct.
There’s still two more games before Chelsea rock up at the Emirates and whilst we’re currently seven points behind the Blues, who knows what could happen in their matches against Queens Park Rangers and Manchester United.
And considering Costa will be missing from those two games, we could find ourselves even closer to Mourinho’s side as we edge closer to the end of the season.
Regardless – it’s safe to say that this game will be crucial to both teams’ Premier League aspirations.
As well as Costa missing, both Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas could also miss the Arsenal game if either picks up a yellow card in Chelsea’s next two games.
Both players are on nine yellow cards for the season and any further bookings would see them pick up a two game ban for reaching the 10 caution threshold.
