Theo Walcott is once again in the midst of a media storm, with the England international allegedly stalling on a new contract. The standoff looks to be coming to an end however, with the Mirror reporting that he is set to open talks in the next two weeks.
The same report reveals that the 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the club this summer, most notable to Liverpool, but Arsenal are keen to avoid a repeat of the contract debacle in 2013 – in which he held us to ransom after entering the final months of his deal.
He is currently one of the highest paid players at the club, on a reported £90,000 per week. The speedster may be keen to see his wage increase further, but is allegedly more concerned about the amount of playing time he will get if he remains at the Emirates.
There have been contrasting reports coming from Walcott and Wenger, with the Arsenal star insisting that, “there have been no contract talks as yet,” according to the Mirror.

Things could finally get underway in the coming weeks however, with contract talks set to begin any day now, says the report.
We badly need to resolve the situation, as it has already begun to steal focus from our fantastic run of form. It would be a shame to see Walcott leave this summer, but if he is unwilling to sign a new deal then it seems like the best option – providing we can get a large fee for his services.
