Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over Burnley helped the Gunners extend their winning run, which now stands at eight games.
We top the form table in Premier League, which has moved us into the position of Chelsea’s nearest challengers, but we are still some way off our own best run of consecutive victories.
Here is the top five longest streaks boasted by current top flight sides, in a list compiled by the Daily Mail:
5- Manchester City (8 wins)
Manuel Pellegrini’s men went eight straight games without dropping a point between December 2013 and November 2014. The highlight of the run came in the final game before they suffered a home defeat to Chelsea, when they thrashed Tottenham 6-1 at White Hart Lane. City would go on to win the title for the second time.
3= Liverpool (11)
While Man City would go on to win the title in 2013-14, and as mentioned boast an impressive winning run along the way, it was Liverpool who achieved the longest streak of the season. Eleven wins from February to April brought the Reds into the title picture, before they slipped up at the crucial moment.
3= Chelsea (11)
The current Premier League leader’s best winning run started in April 2009, and ran until September. Five wins at the end of the 2008-09 season were followed up by six at the beginning of the following campaign. Needless to say, the Blues would win the title in 2010 after that blistering start.
2- Manchester United (12)
Like Chelsea nine years later, Manchester United’s best run extended across two season. Eleven of their twelve victories came in the 1999-2000 season, and helped Sir Alex Ferguson’s side clinch the title by a record eighteen points.
1- Arsenal (14)
All rivals pale into significance however, as the Gunners top the table with a staggering fourteen wins between February and August 2002. Thirteen straight victories to end the 2001-02 season guided Arsene Wenger’s men to the title – which was sweetly clinched at Old Trafford.
For the current crop to equal the record set by Adams, Vieira, Henry and co, they would need to win every game between now and the end of the season.
