Club legend Thierry Henry has received plenty of criticism after suggesting that he would select Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas ahead of Arsenal star Mesut Ozil.
The German has been in fantastic form this season, and was perhaps unlucky not be included in the PFA Team of the Year. He has silenced his critics – and turned many into supporters – having created numerous chances for his teammates.
And whilst Fabregas made an impressive start to his return to the Premier League, his form has tailed off since the turn of the year.
According to the Metro, the striker-turned-pundit made the comments during the build-up to the goalless draw between the two sides at the Emirates on Sunday.
“I would rather have Cesc Fabregas behind the striker than Mesut Ozil,” he said.
As disappointing as it is to hear the Frenchman’s preference for Fabregas over Ozil, perhaps it is not that surprising, as Henry and the Spaniard spent four years together in our first-team.
Nevertheless, football fans have taken to Twitter to criticise Henry’s judgement.
We had Cesc for three seasons and in none of those did he show anything that would make him viable to bench Ozil. Shocking from Henry.

Honestly speaking Henry is wrong. Like Wenger said… anyone will love to be in the same team as Ozil. — Çhopra Ðé GÖÖn€r (@GunningGooner) April 26, 2015
Henry’s affection for Fabregas is understandable. They played together. He doesn’t know what it’s like to play with Ozil.

I couldn’t care less about Henry’s opinion. As a pure #10 Ozil is far superior than Fabregas. It’s not 2008 anymore. — Sidd (@Gooner__Sidd) April 26, 2015
Disappointed with Henry. Doesn’t understand that ozil and fabregas are very different kinds of players

Thanks for your opinion Henry, but no thanks, we love our ozil and sanchez, and can’t sacrifice their skills and work rate for a snake. — ikenna umeizudike (@modestyik) April 26, 2015
