A bizarre report has emerged in The Sun, claiming that Barcelona are planning a surprise £50m move for Aaron Ramsey.
The Welshman was unquestionably one of the best midfielders in the footballing world last season, so it’s understandable that top teams would be chasing his signature. He suffered a massive dip in form at the start of the new campaign, but has looked somewhere close to back to his best in recent months.
The report claims that Barcelona have been keeping tabs on Ramsey for a while, with Luis Enrique sending scouts to watch him on a number of occasions.
This is in spite of their transfer embargo, which prevents them from signing any players until January 2016. If the report proves true, then they would be forced to either wait until next year, sign a pre-agreement with the 24-year-old, or buy him and immediately loan him back out.
Ramsey has been exceptional recently, and we should be doing everything we can to hold onto him. We can’t afford to lose any more players to Barcelona, and with our new found financial clout and ability to challenge for silverware, we should be more than capable of keeping hold of our top players now.
It’s hard to see anything coming of this story, with Arsene Wenger already rubbishing the rumours.
“That is not a serious story,” the manager said (via the Mirror).
Hopefully Ramsey is happy where he is, and remains at the Emirates to help us compete for the Premier League for years to come.
