Arsenal have reached a pre-contract agreement with FC Porto for their in-demand striker Jackson Martinez, and the Colombian has reportedly said goodbye to his club, according to reports in Portugal (via the Metro).

Martinez has been prolific once again for Porto this season – scoring 31 goals in 41 appearances – and it seems as though we’ve concluded a deal ahead of the transfer window opening in June.
According to the report, the agreement is in ‘principle’ with no formal paperwork signed off, but there remains an anticipation regarding the conclusion of this transfer.
Although a figure isn’t stated, the Metro suggest that Martinez’s release clause stands at £24.8m and any club looking to prize him away should meet that price.
Arsenal transfer rumours
Martinez turns 29 in October, and it remains doubtful whether or not Arsene Wenger will pursue such a deal for a player already operating at his peak.
Also, the Colombian’s physique and style of play mirrors Olivier Giroud, so unless the boss is willing to sell the Frenchman, he may be hesitant of possessing two players with similar qualities.
Should we do the unexpected and bring in another striker this summer, you would expect Wenger to be looking for a forward capable of delivering world-class performances and individual brilliance, rather than another target-man tasked with linking up the play.
