James Milner has reportedly opted against signing for us this summer, instead deciding on a move to Liverpool, according to the Daily Mirror.
As the report reveals, Milner is coming to the end of his Manchester City contract, and will be free to move on a Bosman this summer. He has been linked with a move to both us and Liverpool over the course of the season (via the Mirror), but it seems he has decided to stay up North.
It makes sense that the 29-year-old would choose Brendan Rodgers’ side over us, as his main reason for leaving the Etihad is likely to be down to playing time. City have a star-studded squad at their disposal, and although Milner has seen more action this season, his position is anything but secure.
He should see regular game time at Anfield, which he arguably wouldn’t get at the Emirates. You would think that the versatile work-horse would be nothing more than a squad player for us, which is obviously not what he is looking for.
The Mirror also claim Liverpool are willing to offer him £100,000 per week, and we should not be forking out that much for a player who shouldn’t really be in our starting lineup.
I don’t believe we were really ever targeting him seriously, so it is hardly a snub. He would be a decent squad player, but he is not what we need at the moment.
