Arsene Wenger has been told by his former adviser Roland Cheubel that he must sign Gianelli Imbula, with the youngster dubbed the “[Abou] Diaby of tomorrow”, according to the Metro.
The 22-year-old currently plies his trade with Ligue 1 side Marseille, where he has been playing since moving from Guingamp in 2013.
Cheubel believes he would be perfect for Arsenal, and suggests that Arsene Wenger should look to replace Abou Diaby with Imbula.
“Personally, I see him at Arsenal, I talk with Mathieu Flamini when he wants! He [Imbula] has remarkable technical ease, he knows what to do and he does not lose the ball, if he remains focused,” Cheubel said, according to French publication Le Phoceen.
“Arsenal will definitely release poor Abou Diaby and Imbula is the Diaby of tomorrow.”
Diaby has been extremely unlucky with injuries, and has seen his Arsenal career destroyed by them. He is unquestionably a talented midfielder however, and if the Belgian born French U21 international Imbula can emulate him, then he may prove a fantastic purchase.
The Metro reports that we would have to battle Chelsea for his signature, with Jose Mourinho also rating him highly.
Having become the youngest ever Ligue 2 player in history a few years ago, Imbula hasn’t quite lived up to the hype that surrounded him. He still looks to be an exceptional talent however, and may jump at the chance to study under the tutelage of Arsene Wenger.
