Arsene Wenger has confirmed that he’s reached an agreement with the Chilean FA which allows Alexis Sanchez to stay and partake in our FA Cup final before heading back home for the Copa America, The Guardian reports.
According to the report, FIFA rules suggests clubs must release their players 14 days before the tournament starts, a requirement which clashes with the FA Cup and Champions League finals.
Players such as Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and James Rodriguez are all set to be affected, but Wenger confirmed that Alexis has been given permission to remain with us and compete in the Final – although for the boss, it was never an issue.
Arsenal transfer rumours
“We got an agreement they won’t call him,” Wenger revealed.
“They could call him up. Anyway, I am sure he would not go!”
Wenger’s last statement is the interesting part, hinting that Alexis would have refused to go had the Chilean Federation called up him.
Alexis is undoubtedly the star of his national side and manager Jorge Sampaoli would be conscious not to upset his best player ahead of a major international tournament.
Netting a crucial double in our semi-final against Reading, Alexis will be chomping at the bit to complete the job against Aston Villa at the end of this month.
Let’s hope he just does that. He deserves to finish his brilliant debut campaign with silverware.
