Arsene Wenger’s former star-man at Monaco Glenn Hoddle has urged our manager to use Jack Wilshere in his preferred central role, with the 23-year-old starring for England in that position, he wrote in the Daily Mail.
Hoddle, an ITV pundit, has witnessed first-hand the standard of Wilshere’s performances for the national side earlier on this season against the likes of Slovenia and Scotland.
Roy Hodgson has decided to deploy Wilshere at the base of a diamond, and after struggling in his first outing there against Switzerland, there has been obvious progression.

However, such is the competition for places in our squad, Wilshere has had to settle for cameo appearances on the right-wing.
“Jack Wilshere impressed playing slightly deeper in midfield for England earlier in the season and it’s likely we’ll see him play that role for them again in their fixtures this June,” Hoddle analysed.

“He looks like he could play alongside a Schneiderlin in midfield. Wilshere can do that job and needs to convince Wenger to allow him to do it.”
Wenger has been a staunch defender of Wilshere in the past, and considering how determined he’s been to return from various injury problems, it’s hardly a surprise.
The boss has decided to play Santi Cazorla in the deeper role next to a holding midfielder, and the closest player in our squad to matching the Spaniard’s neat footwork in tight spaces is Wilshere.
However, our academy product must convince the boss that he’s also capable of doing the work without the ball too, with discipline now a key feature of our displays.
Wilshere desperately needs a solid pre-season ahead of a crucial campaign for club and country.
