Arsenal’s players looked in a relaxed mood in training ahead of their Premier League clash with Swansea City on Monday.
Jack Wilshere – who made his long-awaited return from injury with 20 minutes against Hull in our last game – posted a photo from London Colney, depicting striker Olivier Giroud grabbing him in an aggressive manner. However, judging by the England international’s facial expression, there was a light-hearted undertone to the event, as Wilshere appears to be laughing!
He has used the caption: “We’re ready for tomorrow.”
The game at the Emirates will bring together two of the purest footballing sides in the league, and promises to be an excellent battle that both sides will be desperate to win. The Swans know that victory will keep their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Europa League alive. They would move to within one point of Southampton, who currently occupy that final place. Should they manage to overtake Ronald Koeman’s men, they would then be reliant on ourselves clinching the FA Cup to take their place in Europe.
However, they should expect no favours from us tomorrow. The sooner we make sure that we automatically qualify for next season’s Champions League, the better. Not only will it allow us to begin our summer preparations earlier – ahead of the final few games – but it will also mean that the Premier League can take our undivided attention for the first few weeks of the new season.
By the time of our first group game this year, we had already dropped six points in the league, partly down to the play-off with Besiktas. Without that distraction this time around, we can hopefully make a much more positive start to our season.
