Arsene Wenger believes our current side is more than capable of winning titles, and he insists that we have more than enough defensive cover in the squad.
Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker have formed an excellent partnership in the centre of defence, and the pair have been a huge part of our stability this season. We also bought Gabriel Paulista from Villarreal earlier in the campaign, and in the handful of appearances he has made this season so far he has looked excellent.
Calum Chambers has been used almost exclusively as a right-back this season, but Wenger clearly sees him as a central defender long term.
“I believe that Calum will be a centre back more than a right back and I want to develop him more as a centre back; even a central midfielder,” the manager said (via The Telegraph).
In the same interview the boss went on to praise our defence, and insisted we were no longer in need of reinforcements at the back.

“Four is enough,” he continued.
“[Mathieu] Debuchy can play there [in central defence], [Nacho] Monreal can play there, so you can say we are not out to buy a central defender.
“And Gabriel will be a great central defender, believe me.”
We may have missed out on the Premier League title once again this season, but we are arguably closer than we have been in a decade to lifting the trophy.
Wenger is confident our current crop of players has what it takes to compete for the highest honours next season, and claims we already have a title winning team.
“We can win [the title], of course we can win,” he added (via The Telegraph).
“We have done it before. Manchester United have done it. Plenty of teams have done it.
“It is how well you play, the kind of game you play.”
If we can remain injury free and keep performing the way we have in 2015, then we should be more than capable of challenging for the title. You can never rely on anyone in our squad remaining injury free however (even after the arrival of Shad Forsythe), so you could argue that we require a few more signings this summer.
