Arsenal are eyeing Leicester City teenager Ben Chilwell as Andries Jonker looks to boost the ranks in the developments squads with some serious talent, the Mirror reports.
Jonker, Louis van Gaal’s former assistant at Bayern Munich, was named as Liam Brady’s successor as our head of youth development and is looking to add more players to our youth squads, as the report suggests.
Chilwell operates in a left-back role and despite the likes of Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal currently occupying that position, we lack talent from the youth system rising to eventually take over from the aforementioned duo.
Arsenal transfer rumours
Arsene Wenger is always looking to protect our future and after insisting that he wants to leave the club in a strong position, a good batch of youngsters was one of the criterias he wants to accomplish.
“In a strong, healthy position,” Wenger stated when asked about the condition he wants to leave our club in (via BBC Sport).
“That means a club that has good players, good youth [coming up] behind and a strong financial position to go further up and develop even more. I will do that, you can believe me.”
We have a history of producing international full-backs with Ashley Cole, Gael Clichy and Kieran Gibbs all arriving at a young age to rise to stardom.
Daniel Crowley, Gedion Zelalem and Chris Willock remain the players in our development squads destined for big futures and if Chilwell can perform to their calibre, we could have another special player on our hands.
