Reports linking us to Gonzalo Higuain have been increasingly common in recent weeks, and now they have gone so far as to claim we have launched a £29.4m bid for the Napoli star, according to the Metro.
We came close to signing the Argentine once before, but were beaten to the punch by the Serie A side back in 2013 (via Goal).
The Metro claim we are back in for him now however, and are waiting for a response from Napoli. They are allegedly unwilling to settle for less than £36.8m, so we may have to up our offer.
We do have one bargaining chip though, as the Metro believe Higuain is keen to force his way out of Italy. Napoli finished fifth in Serie A this season, and failed to secure themselves Champions League football for the 2015/16 season. This is apparently one of the main factors that could see the former Real Madrid star look for greener pastures, and is something we can obviously offer.
The report suggests we have offered him £84,000 per week, which seems a fairly low salary considering his quality. If we can get him for under £30m and on such a low wage, then he could prove to be a real bargain.

Former Arsenal star John Hartson believes signing Higuain would win us the league (via the Metro), and if he’s correct, then £30m seems a small fee.
