We look set to be fairly active in this summer’s transfer window, and our next transfer target may well have been named already. Shakhtar Donetsk have apparently offered us Brazilian forward Luiz Adriano, with the club demanding just £5.5m for the prolific front-man, according to the Express.
As the report suggests, Adriano is into the last year of his contract with the Ukrainian side and will be available on a free transfer next January. Shakhtar are keen to avoid losing him for free and are therefore looking to cash in on him now during the summer.
Shakhtar boss Mircea Lucescu claims there have already been at least one offer from abroad, but followed up by revealing Adriano had rejected a lucrative offer from Al-Ahli. The Express reports he has previously shown an interest in a move to England, so he may well have turned down the switch to the Arab Emirates in favour of hopefully securing a switch to the Premier League.
“The lad did not accept the proposal from the United Arab Emirates, one that was very advantageous for us,” Lucescu said, via the Express.
“It’s a pity, as we want to sell him now and cannot afford to lose him on a free transfer in January. The offer from Al-Ahli was for €8m (£5.5m).”

The 28-year-old has an excellent goals to games ratio, and has consistently scored well over a goal every other game both domestically and in Europe for Shakhtar. It’s debatable whether or not he could recreate that form in the far more competitive Premier League, but at £5.5m he wouldn’t exactly be a big risk.
Is he the elite striker we need? Probably not. Would he be a smart acquisition? Potentially.
