How brilliant would this be, purely in terms of how much it would irritate Spurs fans…?
Today, we’ve been strongly linked to Tottenham midfielder Nabil Bentaleb, the 20-year-old Algerian international.
The Telegraph claim that along with PSG and Juventus, we’ve been scouting the midfielder – who’s becoming increasingly annoyed at his club’s inability to offer him a proper contract.
“I give everything on the pitch,” he began.
“I’ve been working really hard and it’s normal for me to want to get rewarded. We’ve been negotiating for nearly nine months now, since September, and it’s getting really long and, of course, I’m getting a little bit tired of it.”
Bentaleb is decent – to be fair – although we hate praising anyone who puts on that particular white shirt. He can pass, tackle, is physical presence in the centre – while being disciplined, too.
In truth though, he’s not the answer to our central midfield issues yet. We need an experienced option to compete with or replace Francis Coquelin as the holding man. At 20, Bentaleb is not old enough – and not a big enough leader on the pitch.
Having said that, the last time we snatched one of their players, it went down hilariously badly with the enemy… Sol Campbell ran down his contract and signed for us – going on to become an Invincible and reach a Champions League final.
It could be the best decision Bentaleb could ever make!
