Jackson Martinez could be on the verge of a move to Arsenal, according to his agent Luiz Henrique Pompeo.
Arsenal transfer news
The Daily Mail believe that the Colombian is about to complete a £25.5m deal with a ‘big European club’ – potentially Manchester United, AC Milan or ourselves – one of whom has met the player’s buyout clause.
Pompeo has refused to give much away about his client’s likely destination but says that a deal has already been done: “Jackson’s future is already pretty much decided,” he told O Jogo.
“Things should be clarified in the next few days. He’ll go to a big European club, which will be announced as soon as the contract is signed. From what’s been agreed, Porto will receive the €35m (£25.5m) from the release clause.”
Unfortunately, the Daily Star expects Martinez to favour a move to Italy, although we won’t know for sure until the big reveal. It seems unlikely that the player would choose Milan over Arsenal, considering their lack of European football and his ageing years, but it’s impossible to predict what they might have offered the 28-year-old.
He would certainly be the marquee striker we’ve been craving – the man who might take us to that next level and lead a sustained Premier League title charge – but perhaps Arsene Wenger has an eye on someone else.
