Despite glimpses of quality, Joel Campbell doesn’t appear to have much of a future at Arsenal. He could even be on his way out of the club this summer, with Real Sociedad looking to bring him back to Spain permanently, according to the Metro.
The 22-year-old had a phenomenal World Cup in Brazil, and hopes were high that he would be able to make an impact at the Emirates. He was unable to recreate the form shown in South America though, and struggled for game time in the first half of the season.
He was shipped off on loan to Villarreal in January, where he enjoyed a decent spell in La Liga. The Costa Rican’s performances have clearly attracted the attention of a number of suitors, with the Metro claiming David Moyes’ Sociedad side are the front-runners for his signature.
It would be a shame to see such a bright prospect leave the club, but at 22 he doesn’t look like breaking into the team. He signed a new deal before heading out on loan (via IBT), so we would hopefully be able to get a sizeable fee for the young forward.
