Liverpool have informed Arsenal that they would be willing to let Raheem Sterling depart but want Theo Walcott and Kieran Gibbs in exchange, ESPN reports.
Sterling looks set to leave Anfield this summer after informing the Reds that he has no intention of extending his current contract which expires in 2017, and we’ve been mooted as a possible destination for the 20-year-old (via BBC Sport).
However, ESPN suggests that Liverpool have approached us with the potential of a straight swap involving the England trio which is surprising to many.
Arsenal transfer rumours
We imagine that the Reds want to keep hold of their starlet, but could this be a sign of Liverpool being resigned to losing Sterling and hoping for the best possible outcome?
We almost certainly will not entertain a swap deal involving Walcott and Gibbs as Arsene Wenger looks to build a British core at the club.
Walcott’s FA Cup final heroics and subsequent celebrations have given fans hope that he’ll renew his contract, and our hopes were boosted following reports in the Mirror.
That would mean any potential deal for Sterling would have to be cash-only – which remains unlikely at this moment in time.
We have a number of other areas that need strengthening and the Sterling saga resembles that of Cesc Fabregas last summer. A good player but one that we just wouldn’t be able to accommodate.
