Mesut Ozil has been ranked among the most marketable European players in a study carried out by Repucom, with the German entering the list in sixth place, (ahead of Gareth Bale and Eden Hazard), the Evening Standard reports.
The study was carried out by way of a survey in order to determine which player attracts the most global awareness. The report stresses that only players whose international allegiance lie in Europe were eligible for the study, which excludes the likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar.
Ozil joined us in the summer of 2013 from Real Madrid – smashing our transfer record in the process – and has endured an interesting journey at the club.
Injuries and external comments have weighed heavy on his shoulders, but following his return from his knee injury in January, Ozil has been one of our best players.
His stock has certainly not dropped in terms of his appeal on a global stage, and the list below proves that.
Here are the top 10 most marketable European players:
10. Eden Hazard
Chelsea’s wizard is still something of a new sensation following his move to west London in 2012, but winning the Premier League title comes with its own perks, and the Belgian will certainly feature higher in years to come.
9) Gareth Bale
Currently the most expensive player in history (via BBC Sport), Bale’s low ranking is rather surprising given that he plays for one of the most famous clubs in the world.
