Mesut Özil has spoken out about his second season at Arsenal, and claims that while he is pleased with our success in the FA Cup, he would like to kick on and win the Premier League next season, as reported by Goal.
The German international wasn’t at his best during his first season at the Emirates, but showed a massive improvement in his second campaign. A lengthy injury threatened to derail 2014/15, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. He came back stronger and better than ever, and after some time in the gym looked far better suited to the Premier League.
He then enjoyed a fantastic 2015, and was unquestionably one of the standout performers in an extremely successful Arsenal side.
“We had bad luck with injuries this season,” he said, as quoted by Goal.
“But next season we can win the Premier League and go further in the Champions League.”
The World Cup winner claimed he was happy with how the second half of the season went, both on a personal level and for the club. He was particularly pleased with the support shown to him by the fans, and claims he has been buoyed by the faith of Arsene Wenger.
“I was happy with the second half of the season. I wanted to show everybody that I’m back. Winning the FA Cup means it was a successful year. I’m proud of that win.
“My best moment [of the season] was the first game back after my injury against Stoke City. The fans cheered a lot when I was brought on. That was a brilliant feeling and helped me a lot.
“From then on I understood: no matter what happened, the club and the fans are always with me.
“But the most important thing is the opinion of my coach. I have a lot more self-confidence when he is with me. I always had that feeling with Arsene Wenger.”
We are really starting to see the best of the playmaking genius now, and hopefully he can push on and guide us to Premier League glory next season.
