Arsenal’s teenage star Gedion Zelalem has taken the U-20 World Cup by storm after he was recently granted citizenship to represent USA.
Zelalem is seen gliding past a number of players before slipping a trademark through ball for teammate Paul Arriola to smash home.
He also pulled off a clever ‘Rabona’ in an attempt to find a clever run made by the striker in the penalty area. Zelalem was clearly enjoying himself.
The 18-year-old had a tough choice to make regarding who he’d want to represent on the international stage. Zelalem had the choice of Ethiopia, Germany and USA.
Arsenal transfer news
“It was purely just a feeling of knowing I was American,” Zelalem said this week when asked why he chose to represent USA (via ESPN FC).

For us, Zelalem hasn’t blossomed as quickly as some may have hoped but the gifted playmaker still possesses the natural ability to succeed at our club.
Arsene Wenger always prioritises technical ability when analysing young players and Zelalem has that in abundance. He rose to prominence during our Asia tour in 2013 where his vision and weight of pass justified the previous talk likening him to Cesc Fabregas (via The Guardian).
Those are huge boots to fill, but a tougher upper-body and a mentality to succeed will see Zelalem follow in the footsteps of Hector Bellerin and Chuba Akpom into the first-team.
