Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis is adamant that no manager could’ve smoothly safeguarded our move from Highbury to the Emirates Stadium better than Arsene Wenger, and has tipped the boss to deliver the Premier League, The Evening Standard reports.
In a period where there was extreme financial restriction – while our rivals spent seemingly unlimited amounts of money – Wenger successfully kept us in the top four, which was our aim for a number of years.
The money generated was crucial for our development, with players such as Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie departing and replaced with players of not equal calibre.
Gazidis has hailed Wenger’s expertise during this period and tipped the Frenchman to return us to our glory days.
Arsenal transfer rumours
“It is difficult to imagine anybody else could have done it as well as Arsene,” Gazidis was quoted as saying in the publication.
“We always have to do things better than our competitors, that is our challenge.
“But there is a real belief we can win the Premier League and compete to win major trophies in the next few years.”
With the purse strings loosened at the Emirates Stadium, the targets will now surely have to change with Champions League qualification no longer the sole aim.
Winning the title must be the ambition of everyone at the club and Wenger must now be judged according to the resources he has available to him.
The boss has assembled a top class squad, taking us to the pinnacle should be his target.
