Arsenal legend Frank McLintock has backed us to challenge for the Premier League title next season after stating that the current squad is one of the strongest he’s ever seen, he told talkSPORT.
Arsene Wenger effectively named two different starting XI’s over the course of the Emirates Cup weekend, with Mesut Ozil the only player starting on both occasions, which is further evidence of the depth of our squad.
While many continue to clamor for new additions, McLintock has full belief in our current squad.
“It is the strongest squad I have seen Arsenal have and I think they are going to go much closer than they have before,” the former Arsenal man told the radio station.
“In the last nine years I’ve felt Arsenal were a long way from winning the championship but I think this is the closest they have been.”

The calmness among the Arsenal fans suggests that there is a collective acceptance that only a select calibre of player can currently strengthen our squad.
With those players spread across the top clubs in Europe, it’s difficult to prise them away. If a player of true quality becomes available, Wenger has shown that he has no qualms about spending big to bring them in.

However, this squad is arguably more than capable of clinching our first league title since 2004, even without additions.
