Arsenal legend Martin Keown believes that we’re finally starting to see a long-term plan come together and has backed us to go on and achieve something special, he told the Premier League’s official website.
Keown, who has won many league titles with us, has noticed a chain of events which have led up to this moment in time, and predicted that Arsene Wenger’s current contract situation may push the club towards success.
As the squad prepares to take part in the Barclays Asia Trophy, all the shackles have been lifted in order for us to mount a serious title challenge next season, and Keown feels we’re ready.
“This group is moving towards something special,” Keown said.
“I don’t think there’s any shortage of desire from the manager, it’s just making it count throughout the season.
“Arsene Wenger is entering the final two years of his contract, which could be creating that extra intensity, and you wonder whether all this is coming to a boiling point.”
The arrival of Petr Cech is a significant one and the last time we signed an established keeper before a Premier League campaign, the 2003/04 season happened.
Whether or not Cech’s presence is enough to win us the league remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure, there can be no excuses for a failure to challenge for the title next season.
