In a move many may not have been expecting, Brazilian winger Wellington Silva has agreed a new long-term contract, as reported by the Daily Star.
After getting into the final year of his current deal, Silva’s Arsenal career looked destined to come to an end before it even began. He spent a number of seasons out on loan – with mixed success – but after resolving his work permit issues he is finally able to turn out for the club (via the Daily Star).
The Star’s report suggests he is set for another season out on loan however, with Arsene Wenger keen on the 22-year-old getting some Premier League experience.
It’s strange that we have tied him down to a new deal, as it’s hard to see him having any kind of future at the club. He looked prodigious as a teenager, but has so far failed to realise his potential.
It would be fantastic to see the tricky winger succeed at the club, but despite Wenger’s apparent show of faith, it’s difficult to see it happening.
