Our record signing Mesut Özil was recently discussing the differences between Alexis Sanchez and Cristiano Ronaldo, and insists he loves playing with the Chilean due to his teammwork, as reported by the Evening Standard.
Ronaldo is unquestionably one of the best players ever to grace the game, but Alexis Sanchez isn’t far behind. He was superb in his debut season at the club, and kept us competitive in the early stages of the campaign when the rest of the team were struggling somewhat.
Our £42.5m man (via The Guardian) Mesut Özil claims the two men are very different, and highlighted his work-rate and team ethic.
“They are two different players,” the German said, as quoted by the Evening Standard.
“Ronaldo is a player who scores a lot of goals and Alexis is a player that plays for the team.
“You see that in the game, he runs a lot for the team, fights for the team. I just enjoy playing with these players, they are both great players for me.
“Now I play for Arsenal Alexis is a good guy, a good player, and I think all the team are enjoying having him with us.”
Alexis certainly does more than his fair share of defensive work, and can regularly be seen tracking back and dropping deep to get involved. He can arguably hold onto the ball a little too long when going forward, but when you’re capable of scoring the type of individual goals he is, it’s easy to forgive.
Arsenal transfer news
He is likely to prove vital to our season once again, so hopefully he returns from his holidays well rested and rearing to go.
